An Alternative Idea for Placecards, for a 60's themed Wedding....

Kate came into the studio clutching some leaves, some dresses and some rather funky VW camper vans....

The camper vans and the dresses were for the kids.....

And the leaves....over 100 of them,
were for the adults.....

Each one was pierced on the end so that the stalk

of the plastic apple, which Kate provided, would fit through.

Not only unique and different but rather cute to I think! :o)

Butterfly Themed, Foiled Wedding Stationery

I love designing Wedding Invitations for my brides....I love it even more when they choose foil over normal printing. It gives the invite that little bit of extra luxury!

Karen came to see me and decided that she wanted something VERy plain, but eye catching...we decided on this...

However, with the long ascenders of the 'h' and 'd' of Richard, the design looked a little, shall we say 'unbalanced!'.

So, we rethought it and decided to add a butterfly to her theme and she was delighted to run with it.... MUCH BETTER!

For the month of January and right through to Valentine's Day, I'm offering FREE R.S.V.P. cards to match the stationery and Karen asked me to add a little card with a discrete message asking for money in preference to gifts if possible.

Many Brides feel uncomfortable asking for money, but quite honestly, with so many people either living together first or already on their second marriages, I very much doubt that anyone is offended these days.

Fuchsia Pink seems to be a popular colour for brides these days. It's been a best seller for the last 3 years now. I'm wondering what the trend will be this year?

Fortunately, we in the UK are getting braver and braver with our choices and at last we are edging away from the traditional and daring to be different, making each wedding more personal to the Bride and Groom.

From a personal point of view, this makes my job all the more interesting and I'm not only fascinated by the creativity, but happy to be a part of it.

Vintage, Personalised Order of Service and Menus

One of the last things to have made for any Wedding Order is the Menus and Order of Service. This is more to do with the actual numbers than lack of forward planning from the Bride and Groom.

These were made to match the Hand Made Vintage Wedding Stationery seen on this post

The extra border on the left hand side was to allow for the sage green ribbon that was to be provided by the Bride.

I worked closely with this Bride to give her exactly what she wanted. so the images apart from the calligraphy were provided by her :o)

Plans for North Yorkshire Weddings in 2012

Already we're half way through the start of the first month of 2012 and we've already attended our first wedding!

I'm already planning changes and additions to the Wedding Website and Blog for the coming year.

I'm hoping to add guest blog posts from suppliers and companies in the North Yorkshire area.
We also plan to add feature articles of helpful hints and tips for the Bride and Groom to be.
We're also working on new and exciting ideas for Brides to be, from Wedding Stationery to novel ideas for accessories.

Hopefully, by staying more focused, the blog and website will build into a one stop shop for local businesses to connect with Brides and Grooms and for Brides and Grooms to find the things that they are looking for in the North Yorkshire area.

Although many of our suppliers are not area sensitive, it's good for our clients to find someone close to hand, who can deliver what they need and want.

Seating Plan, Place Cards and Table Names

It seems like an eternity since I did the Wedding Invitations for Ian and Amy 6 months has flown by and many other Wedding orders have been completed since then.
Now, with only a week to go, the Bride and Groom have come back to me with the Seating Plan, Table Cards and Place Cards.
The theme of the wedding was Ivy and I managed to incorporate this into the design for the Seating Plan and table Cards. For the Seating Plan I used a hand cut Ivy motif.....

I used a slightly darker shade of green to contrast with the sage green around the names and tables...

And here it is as a full finished piece.....and it looks stunning.

The place cards are written out in Green, Italic, lettering.....

And the name cards are a simply tent style....

again incorporating the Ivy Motif.

As we are invited to this wedding, I hope to get some 'in situ' photos and will post them later if I do.

Northallerton Wedding Fayre 2011

Even if I say so myself, the Wedding Fair went really well. Perhaps, as this was my third one here, it helped a lot in knowing what was required.
My stand was altered with an extending trellis to show off the square stationery, which I think worked particularly well.

There was also the addition of the Wedding Post Box (seen far left, above) which are personalised to order. These went down extremely well and the idea came from another Bride I was already working with.

I made many new contacts and the vendors had as good a time as the Brides to be I think. Roll on the next one! :o)

As well as the horizontal l personalised wedding invitation card, we can also design it as a vertical layout. The lettering of the names is smaller and more, dare I say 'elegant'.

As a calligrapher for well over 20 years, I have come to realise that everyone loves to see their names in beautiful lettering, especially in these days where computers and mobile phones seem to dominate our world.

I thought it was about time I got round to showing some of the many hand made Wedding Invitations we have available at Inspired by Script. We love to design the stationery especially for each bride but we also have designs ready created to select from. We can mix and match the designs to suit the theme and flavour of the wedding. The Baroque Style Invitation

The Baroque Style Invitation is available in either a single border (as above) or a double border (as below). Each of these designs is foiled in a colour to match your colour theme. You can choose from 14 colours!

You could have your names on the cover rather than the word Wedding Invitation written in calligraphy.

The cards are approximately 15cm square and come with a matching envelope. The insides are printed with the details of your choice and can also be printed in colour if you wish.

I was asked by a Bride and Groom to design something around the Simply Stylish range of cards and we came up with this gem....

I had done something similar for Hannah and Roberts Wedding (featured here). It's great working directly, face to face with the Bride and Groom so we can actually give them exactly what they want.

This lovely couple choose to have their names and the front of the card in Silver Foil and the inside was printed in Hot Pink to match the ribbon.
We offer a choice of 14 foil colours which can be seen in THIS POST.

I've been previously using 2mm, satin faced ribbon, but after having problems trying to get it to stay tied I have changed to Organza Ribbon which looks stunning.

Table Name Cards for Weddings

Further to my latest seating plan and to compliment the egg cups, I was asked to make 8 table cards to match. Here are the results....

I've used a triangular construction which will stop them collapsing as many tent cards do. They are strong and won't fall over in use.

I've made them so that they travel flat and a strip of double sided tape makes it easy for the Wedding Planner to assemble on the day. This idea is also idea for orders to be sent through the post.

The lovely red and contrasting green is really growing on me and they look far better in 'real life'.

Wedding Seating Plan - For Claire and John

All my clients and customers are special, but this girl in particular takes the badge of EXTRA special! Claire had a heart operation just a week and a half before her wedding for an, undiagnosed since birth, hole in the heart.
Everything was booked and paid for and she was determined to go ahead. The colour theme was Royal Blue....the colour of Johns favourite football team.....

First all the tables have to be written out along with the headers and then backed on to the coloured backgrounds....

Then, the most difficult and time consuming part is getting them all lined up with equal spacing between each. It's amazing how a couple of mm's can make such a difference and stick out like a sore thumb.

I make a feature out of the Bride and Grooms name and date

The cut out butterflies are glued at the body,

leaving the wings flying free, giving the illusion that they have just landed there.

I love using butterflies for weddings

as they symbolise transformation and free spirits.

I also added Butterflies in Flight to all the table names and on both sides.

Don't they look terrific?

Seating Plan For Weddings

While looking through my stats I noticed that Seating Plans for Weddings are the most searched for words when traffic comes to my site and for that reason I am adding this post.

As well as Stationery, Place Cards. Albums and Guest Books,we as calligraphers are often asked to do Wedding Seating Plans. Although I have done many of these in the past, they are usually a last minute job as the bride finally completes her list and the cancellations have all but finished. The down side to this is that they are collected more or less as soon as they are completed and it's not always possible to managed to get photographs. Anyway, I thought I would share just a couple with you.
The theme of Alison and Nicholas was a beautiful teal and as well as a seating plan, the bride wanted an alphabetical list to speed table finding...

The Alphabetical list was typed on 5 pieces of card ensuring that their was a balance on the 4 cards. The cards were then edged in teal ...

The 9 tables and a hand written title were added to the seating plan and a monogramme of the bride and grooms initials were placed in the middle as requested.....

Stephen and Ambers seating plan was made in a wonderful cherry red, and a butterfly theme was added for decoration.....

The date of the wedding is added underneath....

And the butterflies continue down the board. The gorgeous thing about this is that some of them were only glued under the centre of the body of the butterflies, leaving their wings free and giving them the impression that they have just landed there and are waiting to take off again...

Seating plans cost from as little as £50 and really do add to the reception. Many brides have told me that they get them framed afterwards as a lasting reminder of 'Who was there on the day'.

Hand Lettered Place Cards

Of all the reasons Calligraphers are called on for Weddings, place card writing is probably one of the most popular. How wonderful in this day of type and computer font overload to see your name written in beautiful calligraphy. It always impresses the guests and they usually take them home!

Hand Made Photo Album and Hand Made Guest Book - Hannah and David

How strange life can be sometimes.....this is the 3rd wedding in a row where the Groom has been called David....hopefully not the same one!

First off is a Guest Book....in soft sage green and black. The size of the guest book is around A5 size - Approximately 21cm x 15cm and contains 25 pages. These can of course be made-to-order and have as many pages in as you wish just email me here: inspiredbyscript@yahoo.co.uk

Then a rather larger matching Photo Album which is around 40cm x 30cm and with spacers in so that the photo album lies flat when closed.

And here they are.....Personalised on the covers of course with the Bride and Grooms name and date of their wedding. I was more than slightly surprised how wonderful these colours went together....definitely a good choice!

Wedding Keepsake Box and Handmade Invitations

As well as being asked to make a Wedding Guest Book as mentioned in this post I also had the invitations and RSVP cards to do as well.

I sent off 3 proofs all the same and from the 'Mystery Range with the only change to the one on the North Yorkshire Weddings Website being 'Can we have it in pale blue?'

And I must admit it looks wonderful in this colour.....

Packaging is always a problem. Handing over a bride and grooms precious wedding stationery in a shoe box doesn't seem to be right somehow and finding a box that fits all sizes of invitations seemed to be a nigh on impossibility.....so I am having the made to order.

I was surprised when they turned up today....in pieces. Now making boxes up and especially flat packed ones does not usually phase me....except these came with left over pieces....and then I realised that as I had suggested I give them to the brides as 'Keepsake Boxes' the company included some file dividers to be used both portrait and landscape inside the box. How lovely. (And how relieved!)

Here's the order packed and almost ready to go. I've added a personalised tag to the top of the box with the names and date of the wedding and a little message thanking them for their business.

There's a channel inside the top lid to add a complimentary ribbon and overall I'm delighted with the results. I hope the Bride and Groom will be too :o)

Hand Made Vintage Wedding Invitations - Finished!

Well, another week almost over, and the Vintage Wedding Stationery is finished. I'm always relieved when an order is ready to go. It's that sigh of relief when, if anything has gone wrong during the making, it's not apparent when the order is finished.

Thankfully, once the final design was approved, this order was straight forward

Hand Made Wedding Guest Book - Tanya and David

As mentioned in my post about meeting the perfect Bride and Groom I've finished the matching Guest Book they requested along with their invitation order. Once again I use pale blue ribbon and Japanese tissue paper and bound it using a Japanese Style Binding, used in times past for ledgers.

Hand Made Vintage Wedding Invitations

Here we go.....not my design,

but one a customer commissioned me to do.

Well, in no uncertain terms....this year, 2011. sees that Vintage is definitely 'in'. The client supplied the pictures and I did the designing, based on another envelope card I had done before.

The original design was to have cherubs on it, but after some thought the bride decided to shelve this idea in favour of her second choice, which was the above image.

If you intend to design your own cards it's always best to see a proof first...unless you are a designer, the ideas in your head don't always match the outcome. Personally I liked the cherubs best as I think that weddings deserve to have colour....however, it's not my wedding and not my choice and we designers have to keep quiet about these things :o)

The colour choice was a simple Black and White, the colour theme of the Wedding being introduced elsewhere in their wedding plans.

Their names and wedding date were added to the scroll on the back of the card. This card is designed to be simply folded, the flap attached with some double sided tape and sent through the post as is.....so there is no need for an envelope.

Meeting the Perfect Bride and Groom!

I've finally finished the last of 120 ideal wedding favours. Brought to me by the Bride in 3 lots. The Bride will add a Kinder Egg to each one, making a pretty cool idea as far as Wedding Favours go.

As a calligrapher I get all sorts of jobs to do. From small quotations to full pieces of poetry or prose. The same goes for the Wedding Market. These jobs can range from just the place cards (as below) or full Wedding Stationery orders (see below that). I think that Place Cards are so popular as they can really add to a table and far more preferable than typed or badly written out names. The guests tend to keep them too as it's always nice to see your name written out in a calligraphic hand.

The colour used was a fantastic Royal Blue to match the Brides theme.

And lastly I want to share with you the invitations chosen and made for what must be the 'Perfect' Bride and Groom. I met Tanya and David only briefly at a Wedding Fair.

I say briefly because we were packing up and most of my stuff was packed away. The arrived at the studio without any clear idea of what they wanted and within 10 mins and quickly scanning through 2 Wedding Portfolios, (SEE SOME OF THE DESIGNS HERE) the chose 'Mystery' ......with only a slight alteration in that they wanted them to be Pale Blue.

I also made them some RSVP Cards.....which are always useful and handy and save the invited people the problem of going out and finding a card or acceptance or refusal and ensuring replies are returned quickly and efficiently.

The Bride and Grooms return address is printed on the reverse and so that card simply needs a stamp and a tick and into the post box it goes.

I particularly like the wording on the cards.....it really makes me smile.

Many readers of this blog will not realise that the North Yorkshire Weddings is only a small part of my business at Inspired by Script. So, although it looks like I have taken a long holiday and not much happens at the studio, nothing can be further from the truth....in fact, it has been busier than ever as you will see if you visit my Inspired by Script Site.

On the Wedding front, I am in the process of 3 wedding orders. 1 finished, 1 almost finished and 1 to start next week....providing the proofs come back OK.

In the mean time I needed to make a few portfolios to showcase my new range of Foiled Wedding Cards.

As not only a Calligrapher and Lettering Artist but also a Creative Bookbinder, I thought it would be a bit wrong of me to use shop bought albums and so I made my own. The advantage of this is that I can make them any shape and size and with any amount of pages...so I set to work....first by drilling.......

Then by sewing using a Japanese Stitch and ribbon to hold it all together.

Of course a foiled front label completes each album and they are already sent out to the shops and people who will act as my agents.

This album is a style that I use to create my Hand Made Wedding Albums. Guest Books and Hen and Stag Albums.

Amy and Ian - Hand Made Wedding Invitations

It was delightful to work with Amy and Ian. They had a clear idea of what they wanted and particularly liked the Simply Stylish range but wanted an slight twist on it. Part of their theme involves Ivy, so a small Ivy motif was added. The Daytime invitations were a long, thin DL shape and the Evening Invites C6, I also designed and made RSVP cards also simple in design.

Novel Idea for Wedding Favours

There are many novel ideas for Wedding Favours, but this is a request from a client that is certainly worth sharing! I was asked to add the names to ceramic egg cups and decorate them all with hearts, the theme of their wedding.

Designer Wedding Invitations

One of the nicest compliments a bride can make, is when she trusts you enough to come up with a design that suits their personalities.

For this couple I made proofs of 3 design options. All very similar, but in other ways quite different.....

These are landscape format and I used their names as quite a feature

The next 2 were plainer...one with a simple ribbon and the other with a solitary crystal in the top left hand corner.

The designs are simple and straight forward. The top design makes quite a statement, but I think the names become part of a pattern, the bottom ones are more subtle....but hey, if you can't shout it from the rooftops on your Wedding Day....when can you? All of these designs are Mirror Silver Foiled and look stunning in real life!

NEW Hand Made Wedding Invitations

4 new designs, photographed and ready to add to the North Yorkshire Weddings Website. I just wish it was as quick to list the items as it is to create new ideas and blog about them..... Above is a plain, simple but stylish design. Gold foiled but a choice of 14 colours of foil are available.....ensuring a good match for your Wedding Theme.

Above: Personalised with the names of the Bride and Groom. This one is a 'Formal' hand, but less traditional and contemporary lettering can be chosen.

This one is a Baroque style design. Very popular at the moment.

And this last one is slightly less fussy than the one above. Names can be added rather than the Wedding Invitation wording if preferred.

With only 2 weeks until the Wedding Fayre, I'll be busy making new designs and building up a portfolio ready for the day.

I spent the morning yesterday with a paper rep.....and the afternoon experimenting with a variety of card and foil colours. This on is Peacock.....it's gorgeous......

And if purple is your colour, this one is just lush.....

I also plan to make and sell personalised cards.....

All in all I'm really excited about this machine and the potential and diversity of what it can offer my business.

Brides are finally steering away from traditional style weddings and going for contemporary. They are choosing cupcakes over wedding cakes and funky over formal.

The colour trend for weddings in 2011 is focused on bright colours such as Hot Pink., Royal Blue, Purple, Tropical and Green. See Bridesmaid trends for 2011. Choosing contemporary, gives the bride the chance to show off her inventiveness and creativity....so my new wedding invitations will suit this perfectly. I'm looking forward to sharing some new designs and working alongside my brides to create unique ideas based around you.

At last I've done what I have been thinking about for years ... I've invested in a Foil Blocking Machine and can change any of my lettering, calligraphy, fonts or designs into stunningly beautiful, shiny and sparkly Wedding Stationery and Greeting Cards.

As I am taking more and more orders for Weddings these days it seemed a worthwhile investment and I'm sure it will be.

This machine takes my designs to another level and I look forward to sharing some of them on my blog.

The advantage of this is pages can then be personalised to suit the individuals needs. Each Album or Guest Book then becomes very personal to the individuals concerned,

Honeymoon, Stag and Hen Albums tend to be more funky and fun than formal. Often the Hen or Stag Party will club together and buy this as a lasting memento of the nights activities :o)

Guest Books start around £20... Albums slightly more at £45 depending on the quantity of pages needed. If you have a budget I will work within it....I guarantee :o)

To make these as economical as possible

the tables themselves are printed, but we also add a hand lettered top to every one and add the names

of the Bride and Groom

as well as the date to the top.

The cards are then stuck to Mount Board, and large enough for your guests to see at a distance which avoids those awful queues especially at larger Weddings.

Each card is mounted on paper or card to match your scheme. Seating plans are priced according to the quantity of tables. We make table names or numbers too! If you need advice or a quote then feel free to contact us.

As a professional calligrapher for over 20 years, my aim is to offer that little bit more than your average Wedding Invitation Designer and we are able to hand letter and personalise any item on our website.

Most often it's the invitations and place cards that people want writing out and the colour of the lettering can be done to match your colour theme. So often the whole look of the table can be spoiled by Hotels not paying attention to detail and badly writing out or even worse typing out place cards. It's our experience that people take these home as a memento of that special day....and we can tailor make the cards to suit you. Because we hand write every one we can even use Gold or Silver!

Calligraphy on Place Cards can be as little as 50p, if the place cards are purchased from us, but we can even write them if you buy the cards elsewhere or make them yourself. Pricing depends on the difficulty of the card to be written on, but you can call in and we will be happy to give you a free, no obligation quote.
